In Seghill Holy Trinity Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 41279 Private William Edward Stephenson serving with the Depot, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 22/08/1917.

The headstone reads:

aged 80 years.
Also Isabella
wife of the above
died Nov. 20th 1930aged 74 years.

Coroner's Report Number 387 22/08/1917.
William Edward Stephenson aged 22 years. Private 41279, 22nd Battalion [3rd Tyneside Scottish] Northumberland Fusiliers. Home address. No 15 Double Row Seaton Delaval, died in 1st Northern General Hospital at 6.60am on 22nd.

After enquiries the Coroner granted a certificate. No inquest necessary. Injured at seat of War.
