"George Edward Cattermole, eldest son of of Mr. G. Cattermole of Chollerton Vicarage. “For the past seven years he had lived in Newcastle, having served his time in Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co. ... . Early in the course of the war, in January 1915, G. Cattermole, desiring to join the Army, applied for leave to do so, but was informed that it was quite impossible to grant him permission to leave the firm’s employ. He continued his work there until June of the present year, when a considerable number of the employees were called up. Joining the ASC he was employed in the Motor Transport work, and was stationed at Osterley Park, and at Sydenham.

Private Cattermole was at home at the end of September, but not long afterwards contracted the prevalent influenza, which developed into aacute pneumonia. He succumbed to this in the Horton War Hospital, Epsom, on November 5th. Somewhat reticent in manner, though bright and sociable among those who know him, George Cattermole was of strong and sterling character, and had won in a marked manner the respect and appreciation of his fellow workers.”
