Jefferson, E.T., A/Smn., 1917
In Etaples Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/1784 Able Seaman Edward Thompson Jefferson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 12/06/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Edward was born on April 17th 1894 and was working as a miner living with his parents, William and Frances at Henderson's Buildings, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on November 12th 1914.

He joined the Anson Battalion on February 23rd 1915 and served until he was invalided to the UK on January 17th 1916 suffering from a scalded left foot.

He rejoined the Anson Battalion on December 11th 1916 and was gravely wounded on June 3rd 1917.

Edward died from the effects of gun shot wounds to the head and shoulder and a fractured skull at the St. John Ambulance Brigade Hospital, Etaples on June 12th 1917.

Edward Jefferson's name is not on a local memorial.

In a Book of Honour in the church his name is given as "Thomas Edward Jefferson.
