John and George born 1894 were twin sons of George and Mary Jane Curtis of 4 Gibson Street, Newbiggin by the Sea.

John enlisted at Newcastle upon Tyne and joined the Northumberland Fusiliers.

Recipient of the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

His brother George serving with the 1st/7th The Northumberland Fusiliers died 26/04/1915 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.

John Curtis is remembered in Newbiggin by the Sea on N10.06
