On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 22276 Private John Robert Scott, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (12th Battalion) who died 03/07/1916.

John Robert Scott was born at Ellington (Woodhorn in the 1891 Census) Northumberland in 1889 to parents George Scott, an agricultural labourer who was born at Alnwick, Northumberland and Margaret Scott from Ellington in the same county.

In 1891, John and his family lived at High Steads, Old Moor, Sheepwash Northumberland.

In the period between 1891 and 1901 his mother died and the 1911 Census John is shown as living with his father and siblings at 23, Watergate, Cambois in the house of his cousin.

John was still living at 23, Watergate in 1911 and working in the coal mines as a colliery labourer when war broke out. Enlisting at Blyth, he joined the Northumberland Fusiliers. CWGC records confirm he was the son of George Scott of 23, Watergate, Cambois Blyth Northumberland.
