ROLL OF HONOUR
ROBERTSON.- Killed in action on Oct. 26th, 1917, William (Willie) Robertson, N.F., beloved son of Mr and Mrs David Robertson, of 5 Miners’ Cottages, Bedlington Station; late of Watergate, Cambois.

Morpeth Herald 30/11/1917 carries the following:
Mr and Mrs David Robertson, of 5 Miners’ Cottages, Bedlington Station, have received official information that their son Willie, N.F., late of Watergate, Cambois, was killed in action on October 26th.

William Alexander Robinson was born at Cambois, Northumberland about 1891. His parents were David Robertson, a hewer in the coal mines, born at Berwick, Northumberland and Alice Robertson who was born at Cambois.

In 1891, William Alexander Robertson was four months old and his family included Ann Bell 13, John 11, Thomas 8, Alice Ann 6 and David aged 6. His family was living at 29, Boca Chica, Cambois.

By 1901, his family which was still living at Boca Chica and had grown to include sister’s Sarah, Mary, Ellen and brother George.

The 1911 Census shows William, age 20, still living in the family house at Cambois where he was employed in the coal mines.

William married Mary Wake in 1913 and they had a child, Stanton, in 1914. They lived at 4, Watergate, Cambois and when his father retired David and Alice moved to 5, Miners Cottages, Bedlington Station.

William enlisted at Cramlington, Northumberland and served in the following units, 16/1704, Northumberland Fusiliers, 14th Battalion and 7/5505 Northumberland Fusiliers 1st / 7th Battalion.

William Alexander Robertson is remembered at Cambois on C6.02 and in the Battalion History
