On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/2382 Able Seaman George William Reed, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

George was born in 1895 in Bedlington to John and Margaret Reed. In 1911 the family was living at 108, North Row, Sleekburn Colliery and George was a colliery screener. When George joined the Royal Navy there were too many men for the available ships so he was sent to the Royal Naval Division 'Winston's little Army' of sailors who fought on land. He died in the Gallipoli campaign and is remembered on the Helles memorial overlooking the Dardanelles.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04
