Private T. Scott, Bedlington, missing.
He is not remembered on any memorial at Bedlington
Carolyn Campbell has submitted the following:
I have been researching my family tree and have found my Great Grandfather, Private Thomas Scott, 1344, who was in the 23rd Northumberland Fusiliers, 4th Tyneside Scottish. He was killed in action on the 1st July 1916 at 'La Boisselle ' village in Northern France, aged 37, and his name appears on Thiepval memorial.
He lived at Gordon Terrace, Bedlington, with his wife Hannah and three children. He was born at Wooler, but the 1911 census has him working as a Tailor in Bedlington. His name is in a memorial book in St Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, but I was disappointed to see his name is not on the war memorial.
My Grandmother went to work as house keeper for Canon McCleod, vicar of Mitford Church. He lost a son in the war and wanted to help a family, so he took them under his wing. As they were not in Bedlington after the war this would explain why he was left off the memorial.
The photo here is clipped from a larger group photo which is shown below. Private Scott is in the middle of the front row.
The man identified in the back row came from Westgate.
