In Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 20/637 Serjeant Charles Robson, serving with the 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 12/01/1917 carries a brief obituary:

Sergeant Charles Robson, Porch House, Bedlington, has been killed in action.

Charles Robson was born in Coanwood near to Haltwhistle, Northumberland on 30th December 1886 and baptised at the Primitive Methodist Church, Haltwhistle. His parents were Francis, a coal miner, born at Bedlington and Jane Robson who was born at Haltwhistle.

In 1891 Charles’s family, which included his brother Thomas, aged 6, were living at Lane Head, Lambley.

Charles was living at Lane Heads, Haltwhistle in 1901 where his father was a colliery deputy overman and he was a colliery labourer. His family now included siblings Mary 9 and John aged 7.

In 1911, Charles was living at Vulcan Place Bedlington, single, and worked as a hewer in the coal mines.

Charles enlisted in Bedlington when living at Newcastle Bank, Bedlington. The CWGC documents confirm he was the son of Francis and the late Jane Robson of Porch House, West End Bedlington. None of the documents seen indicate he was married.
