In Bedlington (Netherton Park) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

R. Swann
Ordinary Seaman Cook. RNPS.
LT/JX. 216290
H.M. Patrol Vessel "Gloaming"
20th March 1941 age 21.

His brother Joseph Ordinary Seaman R.N.
was lost with H.M.S. "Barham"
on the 24th November 1941 age 24.

Son of Thomas and Hilda Annie Swann, of Netherton Colliery. His brother Joseph also died on service.

Sydney Graham states that LT/JX 216290 Cook Swann was a crew member of HMS Gloaming, a small Royal Navy Patrol Service ship, which was sunk by a German mine in the Humber on 20th March 1941.

Robert Swann is remembered in Bedlington on B15.08 and on our List of Ships’ crews.
