In 1891, John Thomas Leece was six years old and living at Gateshead with his parents. At this time his father was a blacksmith's fitter and the document shows John’s three sisters Elizabeth Jane 8 and Alice aged 4 in the house.
John was not located in the 1901 Census.
John was living at Rose Cottages, Sheepwash Bank, Choppington, Northumberland in 1911, where he was employed as a miner, aged 27. His wife Margaret was from Newcastle and they had following children: Elizabeth Jane 3 and John Thomas aged 1. Records show they were married in 1904.
Military information shows John enlisted at Bedlington and confirms he was in the 23rd Battalion of the Tyneside Scottish. CWGC documents show he was the husband of Margaret Leece of 9, Haymarket Buildings, Newcastle. On his death his effects went to his widow Margaret who was still a widow in 1919 and had not remarried.
