Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:
John James Jones was born at Bedlington, Northumberland in 1886 to parents Enoch and Sarah Jones. His father and mother were from Wolverhampton.
In 1891, his family lived at Doctor Terrace, Bedlington where John’s father worked in the coal mines. There were four children in the family including Florence 16, Mary 10, Sarah 8 and John aged 5.
By 1901 John, now aged 15 was still living at Doctor Terrace and working as a hewer in the coal mines. His sister Sarah was shown to be 18 years old and a school teacher.
The 1911 Census shows John was the only son still at 49, Doctor Terrace where he was a colliery banksman, aged 25. Both parents were still alive and they had been married for 37 years.
At the time of enlisting at Bedlington John was living at 49, Doctor Terrace, Bedlington. On his death, his effects went to his father, suggesting John was single. His parents were living at Oliver’s Buildings in Bedlington after his death.
John James Jones is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.09, B15.20 and B15.26 page 49
