Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:
William Fishwick was born at Bedlington, Northumberland in 1888. His parents were James, a coal miner from Lancashire, and Mary Ann Fishwick (nee Marley) who was born at Sleekburn.
In 1891, when William was 3 years old, his family was living at Vulcan Place, Bedlington. Also in the house were William's brothers John aged 3 and Solomon who was 6 months old.
By 1901, William’s mother was widowed and working as a charwoman. His family was still living at Vulcan Place where his brother John, now 15, was a draper’s assistant and William was working in the coal mines as a pony driver. Also in the house was a sister, Elizabeth who was 5 years old.
The 1911 Census shows William and his mother living at Salmon Place, Bedlington where William was now a hewer in the coal mines.
William enlisted at Bedlington and on his death his effects went to his mother Elizabeth, indicating he did not marry.
William Fishwick is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02 and B15.09
