Mark Newman

Derek Johnstone has provided the following information:
Mark Newman was born at Blyth about 1895 to parents Robert and Margaret A Newman. His mother, born in Bedlington in 1861, was a McLean before she married, and his father was born at Blyth, Northumberland.
In 1901, Mark, aged 5, was living with parents at Crofton Street, Cowpen with siblings Harriet 17, Robert 15, Joseph 10, James 7, William 3, and Margaret 6 months.
In 1911, when 15 years old, he was living with his parents at 4, Cross Row, Bedlington and was there at the time of his enlistment at Newcastle. At this time Mark worked in the coal mines as a rope boy. He did not marry. His effects went to his father, Robert Newman.
Mark’s brother, Joseph Newman, died of wounds in October 1915 serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (10th Battalion).
Mark Newman is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.06, B15.20 and in B15.06 on page 84.
