William Embleton was born at Bedlington, Northumberland in 1894 to parents Thomas and Margaret Embleton. His mother Margaret, who was from Netherton, died in 1903 and in 1904 his father married Charlotte Annie (Anne) Melville (Melvin). In 1901 William was living with his family at Hollymount, Bedlington, in the east end of the town. 1911 saw the family living at Beech Grove, a street opposite Hirst Terrace leading to Bedlington Station. At this time his siblings included Thomas 4, John 2, Elizabeth 13 and Mary 10. William worked in the coal mines as a pony driver and was single. William enlisted at Newcastle when living at Beech Grove and after his death the family was living at 20, Beech Grove Bedlington. William was a prisoner of war when he died, aged 24 years from either illness or wounds tragically only seven days before the end of the war.
