Derek Johnstone has provided the following:
William Ernest Dixon was born in 1896 at Bedlington in Northumberland. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Casualty Records show he was a Canadian national. It would appear that his parent emmigrated to Canada and this could be the reason why he joined the Canadian Field Artillery. The documents also show he was the cousin of Mary Elizabeth Dixon of 1, Vicarage Terrace, Bedlington. Vicarage Terrace is the address shown on the Record of Enlistments when he enlisted. William served in France and was young to be a Sergeant.
