In Bedlington (Netherton Lane) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 987618 Leading Aircraftman Thomas Johnstone, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 25/08/1944.

The headstone reads:
In memory of our dear son
LAC Thomas Johnstone R.A.F.
1920-1944

Per ardua ad astra

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and B163.05 and in an RAF Roll of Honour page 60
