Millne, F., Pte., 1916
In Combles Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23836 Private Fred Millne, serving with the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment), who died 17/12/1916.

Morpeth Herald 12/01/1917 carries a brief obituary:

Fred Milne [sic], 11 Hollymount Avenue, Bedlington, has died of wounds received in action.

MILLNE:- Died of wounds received in action in France, on December 17th, 1916, aged 31 years, Fred, the dearly beloved husband of Isabella Millne, 11 Hollymount Avenue, Bedlington.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Fred Millne was born in 1886 at Bedlington. He was the husband of Isabella Millne who was living at 11 Hollymount Avenue, Bedlington and they were living there when he enlisted in the Army at Bedlington. In 1911, Fred was living at 7 Burdon Terrace, Bedlington and working in the coal mines as wagonman. Fred was formerly in the Northumberland Fusiliers (29211). The following inscription is on his gravestone ‘Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away’. Fred Millne is buried in France.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.09 and in B15.26 page 7
