Carole Fife has provided the following:
Robert was born in Broomhill in 1898, the eldest of six children to William and Mary Stevens. His father was a miner and in 1901 the family were living at 31, Chest Street, Amble. By 1911 they had moved to 178, Longhirst Terrace, Pegswood, but when he enlisted in Newcastle, Robert was living at 9, Clifton Row, Netherton Colliery, and as he is named on the Netherton Coal Company Roll of Honour he must have become a miner like his father. His legatee was his mother, which would indicate that he wasn't married.
He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.07 where his name is Stephens, and in B15.26 page 128
