On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 20/918 Corporal John Mossop Stephenson serving with 20th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

John was born in Drigg, on the Cumberland coast near Ravenglass, in 1889. He was still living in Drigg in 1901, but his family then moved to the north-east in search of work. In the autumn of 1909 he married Margaret Hogg from East Sleekburn and they had a daughter, Roberta Mossop in March 1911. At the time of the 1911 census the family were living at 12 ½ Jubilee Terrace, Bedlington Station, and John was working as a stoneman at the pit. John enlisted in Bedlington and the Enlistment Book shows him as living at Hollymount Hall. He was declared missing in October 1916, and was later presumed as having died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.06, B15.20 and in B15.26 page 4
