BEDLINGTON

Brooks, J.W., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 15342 Private James William Brooks serving with 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/09/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

James was born in the Morpeth area in 1895 , one of 10 children to Matthew and Sarah Brooks. His father was a miner and in 1901 the family were living at 3, Oldgate Street, Morpeth. By the time they were living at Challos Yard in Morpeth in 1911 James was also working down the pit, and the family later moved to Howard Row at Netherton Colliery. James was only 21 when he died and I cannot find a marriage record for him.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.07 and B15.26 page 125
