In Bedlington (Netherton Lane) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Sergeant William Dott, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 06/11/1941.

The family headstone reads:
In loving memory of
Our dear parents
Charles Dott
Died 24th Sep. 1929 aged 55 years
Christina Dott
Died 13th Nov. 1942 aged 67 years
May their daughter
Died 6th May 1920 aged 16 years
William their son, Sergeant, R.A.F.
Killed on active service 6th Nov. 1941
And 27 years.

Sgt. Dott was serving with 16 O.T.U. He was a crew member of Hampden I P5386 which took off from Upper Heyford on a night bombing training exercise. The aircraft crashed on Oxfordshire killing all four crew members.Bomber Command O.T.U. 1940-1947
