Menin Gate Memorial

On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of 1598 Private Wilfred Hereward Wake, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 26/04/1915.

In Bamburgh St. Aidan’s Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In
loving memory of
Richard Wake
died 2nd Oct. 1909
aged 80 years
Also Mary wife of the above
died 30th March 1946
aged 95 years
Also their sons
Thomas Henry
aged 25 years
and Wilfred Hereward
aged 20 years
Both killed in action
in France 25th April 1915

Wilfred Hereward Wake is remembered at Bamburgh on B3.02 and B3.11 and in the Battalion History and at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on NUT098
