In Minty Farm Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 46113 Private John Richardson Dodds, serving with the 24th and 27th (Irish Tyneside) Battalions of the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 16/10/1917.

John was born on the 22nd November 1889, the son of the late Thomas Robert Dodds a schoolmaster, of Longhoughton, Northumberland.

He was educated at the Duke's School at Alnwick and had been employed in the North Eastern Railway Mineral Audit office at Newcastle upon Tyne.

John enlisted on the 17th May 1916, and served in France and Flanders from the 1st January 1917. He died from wounds (received in action on the 14th) at Langemarck, on the 16th October 1917.

His captain wrote : "He was a fine fellow and a very good soldier, and was a great favourite with all ranks."

Note. In August 1917, the 24th and the 27th Battalions were merged together. 24/27th Battalion, due to casualties being so high, and a severe shortage of reinforcements
