Potts, H.N.W., Pte., 1917

In Felton Cemetery is a family headstone for Potts which reads:

Joseph husband of Elizabeth Potts, who died at West Thirston 17th May 1923 aged 91 years. Their son Norman, killed at Arras 9th April 1917 aged 21 years. Also Elizabeth his wife, died 18th September 1947 aged 84 years.

On a windowsill inside St. Michael's Church is the original grave marker for:

23/4/1917

An accompanying letter from the Commonwealth War Graves reads:
"Private Herbert Norman Weir Potts, 38111, 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers died on 13th April 1917, age 20, and is buried in Plot 15, Row J, Grave 1 in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. He was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Potts of Morpeth, Northumberland.
Souchez is a village 11 kilometres north of Arras on the main road to Bethune. Cabaret-Rouge Cemetery is about 1.5 kilometres south of the village on the west side of the road."
