Moir-Byres, J.S., 2nd Lieut., 1915

In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (St. Andrew's and Jesmond) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Lieutenant J.S. Moir-Byres serving with the 1st/3rd Scottish Horse who died 28/09/1915.

The headstone reads:

In loving Memory
of
James S. Moir-Byres,
born July 28, 1881, died Sept. 28, 1915
youngest son of the late
George Moir-Byres
of Tonley, Aberdeenshire

Royal Victoria Infirmary Coroner's report 30th Sept 1915. No 426: <

"James Sandilands Moir-Byers, aged 34 years, 2nd Lieut, 3rd Scottish Horse. Deans Grove, Guildford, Surrey. Died in 1st N.G.H. at 2pm 28th.

Deceased died from Heart-failure whilst under an anaesthetic administered for the purpose of an operation, for removal of steel plates from his left arm and leg.

And the Jury is of the opinion the anaesthetic was necessary & properly administered."
