Atkinson, F.P., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval memorial is the name of 12268 Private Francis Price Atkinson, serving with the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 07/07/1916.

Susan Carmichael has provided the following:

Francis was the son of Francis Price, and Annie Jane Atkinson (nee Carr), and was born in the 4th quarter of 1893.

His parents were married in 1890, and lived in Normanton Terrace, Elswick, Newcastle-upon, Tyne. His father was a drapery agent.

By 1901 there were two children, Alice Mary (born 1892), and Francis. By now the family lived at 33 Kenilworth Road, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Also in the household was Alice Carr, Annie’s Mother, and a servant, Mary A Pratt.

The 1911 census shows the family still lived at the same address, with Alice Carr, and a servant Sarah Jane Potts.

Francis was now a Clerk for a Ship Owner and Broker.
