According to the 1911 Census they lived at 13 Kyle Street, Elswick, where his occupation is given as “bricklayer”. Thomas enlisted at Newcastle on 6th August 1914 and served with the 1st Northumberland Field Company. He died at 10.45am at Walkergate Hospital, Newcastle, from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. His symptoms began in 1915 when he was hospitalised suffering from bronchitis due to the cold in the trenches in Ypres, Belgium.
