In Newcastle (St John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

J. Hogg
Royal Engineers
27th February 1919, age 25.

Deeply mourned.

John was the son of Mary J Taggart (formerly Hogg), 6 Ryton Street, Gateshead and the late William. He was born in Perth, Scotland.

He served with the 447th Field Company and was formerly (818, Sapper, Royal Engineers: 171 Company Transport). He was wounded on 22nd June 1915, suffering a gunshot wound to his right knee and was admitted to No.3 Casualty Clearance Station.

This headstone is unusual because it does not carry a cross with the regimental badge at the crossing.

The name of John Hogg doesn't appear on any local war memorial.
