John was the son of John S. Hanlon and the husband of Margaret Anne Devanney (formerly Hanlon [nee McCabe]) of 82 Blenheim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. He served with 1/6th Battalion (Territorial) Battalion and died at home. He had previously served in the South African Campaign.
