John was born in the first quarter of 1892 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of John George and the late Elizabeth. He was the husband of Lena Jane (nee Brown) whom he married in the first quarter of 1913 at Newcastle. They lived at 930 Walker Road, Newcastle.

John enlisted at Newcastle, initially with the 1st/4th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, before being transferred to ‘A’ Company, 1st/5th Battalion. He was formerly (5/1050, Private, N.F.).

John Thomas Boyd is remembered in Byker on B95.09 and B95.11 and in the Regimental Roll of Honour
