On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1543 Able Seaman William Cross serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

William was born on 7th August 1896 and was working as a plumber's labourer living with his parents, William and Annie at 81, Bolam Street, Byker when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 14th November 1914.

He joined 1st Platoon, 'D' Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th March 1915 and was posted as missing, assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on 4th June 1915.
