Laydon, W., Pte., 1914
In the Vailly British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 9332 Private William Laydon, serving with the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards who died 14/09/1914.

William was born at Byker on the 22nd September 1882, son of John Laydon, 17 Dunns Terrace, Byker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Educated at St Dominic's Catholic School.

He enlisted on the 22nd October 1911.

He was killed in action at Soupir, during the Battle of Aisne on the 14th September 1914. He was unmarried.

He is not remembered on a North East War Memorial.
