Jackson, H.W., Lieut., 1918
In Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-le-Grand, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant Herbert William Jackson, serving with the 12th/13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 20/01/1918.

He was the son of Robert William and Margaret Eleanor Jackson.

Morpeth Herald 01/02/1918 carries a brief obituary:

Mr and Mrs R.W. Jackson, 5 The Poplars, Gosforth, have received official news that their son (only child), Lieut. H.W. Jackson, was killed in action on January 20th in France, by the bursting of a shell.

Newcastle Journal 29/01/1918 continues:-

Lieutenant Jackson was educated at the Grammar School Stamford, Lincolnshire and at the Royal Grammar School Newcastle. For a time he was engaged upon draughtsman's work in the Superintending Engineer's Office General Post Office, Newcastle. He obtained his commission through Durham University O.T.C. on August 16th 1916 and had served in France since May 11th 1916 being attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers and later with the Royal Engineers.
