The Auckland and County Chronicle 08/04/1920 reports:
“Memorial service.
A memorial service was held in the United Methodist Church, under the auspices of the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavour, at which the parents of Pte. George G. Phoenix and Pte. Lancelot Brooksbanks received an enlarged framed photograph of their sons, who made the supreme sacrifice in the war. An address was given by Mr. L. Turnbull, after which Mr. Jos. P. Moody, on behalf of the members of the C.E., made the presentation, during which all joined in singing “Jesu. Lover of my soul”. Mr. John Moody acted as organist.
