McIntosh, J.W., Pte., 1914
On La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial is the name of 8946 Private John W. McIntosh, serving with the Durham Light Infantry, who died 21/09/1914.

Cliff Thornton has submitted the following:

Private John Wm McIntosh was the son of William and Elizabeth McIntosh of Stockton on Tees. He was born about 1888, in West Hartlepool.

The 1911 census records him as a worker at a local shipyard. By 1912, his marriage certificate records his occupation as "Bandsman". His wife was Emiline (Milly) Peacock.

He enlisted in the Durham Light Infantry (8946), and was killed in France whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion. He died on 21 September 1914.

He is remembered in Stockton on S138.10 and S138.18 page 39 and in D.L.I. Book of Remembrance page 256
