In the Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 3/7726 Private James Quinn serving with the 3rd Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 04/06/1915.

James Quinn was born in Seaham Harbour, [some sources say Ryhope), in 1885, the son of Joseph Quinn of Sunderland and his wife Jane, daughter of Carry Plunkett. He attended Ryhope Elementary School. James then enlisted at Bishop Auckland into the Durham Light Infantry in 1903. He served 8 years with the colours and then in the Reserve.

He married on the 5th February 1908, at St Patrick's Church, Church Street, Sunderland Elizabeth who lived at 17 Sussex Street, Sunderland, daughter of John Cassidy.

They had three children, Patrick James Cassidy, born 16th June 1912, Joseph Cassidy, born 14th December 1914 and Elizabeth Jane Cassidy, born 17th February 1909.

James was mobilised on the 4th August and was sent to France on the 22nd October, as the third reinforcements, for the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 'B' Company. He was killed at Ypres with a hand grenade whilst on guard on the 4th June 1915.

His wife had moved to 20 Sussex Street, Sunderland.
