In Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 90396 Corporal Edward Connolly, serving with the Royal Field Artillery who died 12/12/1915.

Edward Connolly was born in Southwick on the 7th November 1890. He was the third son of Thomas Connolly, a Riveter, of 16 Mary Street, Sunderland, who was married to Frances, daughter of Peter Patrick of Sunderland.

Edward was educated at the National School and was employed at Priestman's Sunderland. His address was 162 Mary Street. He joined the R.G.A. (T.F.) and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He then took his discharge in June 1914, as medically unfit.

He re-joined on the 16th August, 1914. He died of wounds received in a farmhouse near Ypres on the 12th December 1915.
