Barker, N., Pte., 1916
In Warlencourt British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 250146 Private Norman Barker serving with 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 05/11/1916.

Peter Wise and Brenda McMahon have submitted the following:-

Norman was born in the Guisborough area in 1897. His mother's maiden name was Hodgson. The 1901 Census gave his place of birth as Carlinghow, Yorkshire, the 1911 Census states Redcar whilst Military Records give Loftus.

In 1901 he was living at Startforth with John and Elizabeth Wilson and their two daughters and son. In 1911 he was a scholar aged 13 years living with his aunt Elizabeth Wilson and her granddaughter Jane Elizabeth Turner, still at Startforth.

Norman enlisted at Barnard Castle and joined the Durham Light Infantry. He had first Service Number 2077 and then 250146. He embarked for France on the 19th April 1915.

He was killed in action on the 5th November 1916.

Recipient of the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
