In Marfaux British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 26648 Private John Thomas Walton, serving with the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) who died 20/07/1918.

John Thomas was born about 1899 in Burnhope.

In 1911 the family were living in Queen Street, Grange Villa. Head of house was Elizabeth Walton, aged 32. John Thomas, schoolboy, was aged 12, He had two siblings: Charles, aged 10 and Joshua aged 7.
