In Dartmoor Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 9/2915 Lance CorporalForster Armstrong serving with the 1st/9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry who died 16/09/1916.

His Duty Done

Only son of Luke and Lizzie Armstrong, of 20, Axwell Terrace. Swalwell, Co. Durham.

In Whickham Garden House Cemetery is a headstone which reads:-

In
loving memory of
Lce. Corpl. Forster Armstrong
D.L.I. who died of wounds Sept.
16th 1916 was buried at Dartmouth
Cemetery near Becordel S.E. of Albert
aged 21 years
only beloved son of
Luke and Elizabeth Armstrong
of Swalwell

His duty well done

Forster Armstrong is remembered at Swalwell on S85.01 and at Whickham on W86.10

He is also remembered in The DLI Book of Remembrance page 246 as Acting Corporal.
