Reed, J.E., Pte., 1918
On the Soissons Memorial is listed the name of 58102 Private John Edward Reed serving with 1st/4th Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/05/1918.

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

John was born at Newcastle 1885. He later became a house painter by trade.

He married Marjory May Leask at Newcastle in 1912. She was from Peterhead in Scotland.

He enlisted into the army at Gateshead.

John was killed in action in 1918 aged 33 years. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial along with nearly 4000 officers and men. The soldiers were killed in heavy fighting during the Battle of Aisne and the Marne.

John Edward Reed is remembered at Low Fell on L61.05 and at Gateshead on G39.004 where his name is spelt J.E. Read.
