LOW FELL

Parkin, F.W., Pte., 1916
In Millencourt Communal Extension Cemetery is the Commonwealth War grave of 18/1443 Private Frederick William Parkin serving with 18th (Tyneside Pioneers) Northumberland Fusiliers who died 24/04/1916.

Brenda Mcmahon submitted the following :-

Fred was born to Charles and Elizabeth (nee Foster) at Gateshead in 1896. He had 3 siblings, Elizabeth, Mary and Edith.

In 1911 his father was a cartwright as was their boarder, William Foster who could have been a relative of his wife , Elizabeth.

Fred enlisted at Cramlington. He died of wounds in France and Flanders on 24 April 1916 aged 19 years at the 25th Field Ambulance station. He is buried at Millencourt Cemetery which is located on the Somme.

His father added the following words to his gravestone:- In the midst of life We are in death.

Medals awarded were British War Medal and Victory Medal.
