LOW FELL

Kay, T., Pte., 1916
In Becourt Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 21/481 Private Thomas Kay serving with 21st (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/06/1916.

Brenda Mcmahon has submitted the following :-

Thomas was the son of John and Elizabeth Kay. He was born at Bearpark Durham (c) 1884. The couple had 7 children but only 4 survived. His siblings were William, John, Elizabeth, Jennie, Ethel, and Fred. Like his father Thomas worked as a coal hewer. His brother, Thomas was also in the pit but as a driver.

Thomas enlisted at North Shields and was killed shortly before the Battle of the Somme at the end of June 1916 aged 27 years.

He is buried at Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt in France.
