Moore, J.W., Pte., 1917
On the Vimy Memorial is the name of 706482 Private James Moore, serving with the Canadian Infantry who died 13/06/1917.

James W. Moore was born on 12th April 1891, one of six children of William George and Mary Jane Moore. His father was a publican and ran the Waggon Inn, Eighton Banks where family lived at the time of the 1911 census. James was an unemployed coal putter at the time.

He must have emigrated for a new life in Canada as he enlisted in Victoria, British Columbia on 3rd January 1916 and served as a Private with 102nd Battalion, of the Canadian Infantry, regimental number 706482. His parents had remained in Gateshead where his father later ran the Half Moon Inn, Wrekenton. His elder brother, Jasper Moore, lived in the Eighton Banks area all his life and died in 1968. James died on the Western Front on 13th June 1917.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
