On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/3384 Petty Officer Joseph Elliott, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/11/1916.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

Joseph Elliott was a petty officer with the Hawke Battalion of the RNVR Number Tyneside Z/3384. He was born on 28th July 1895. He enlisted on 19th January 1915 and in December 1915 he joined the Hawke battalion at Mudros, Greece. On 13th November 1916 he was listed as missing assumed killed in action. In his record there is said to be no information as to the location of his grave, and he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.

He was said to have been a miner and the family lived at 82 William Street, Hebburn Quay before moving to 15 Boundary Houses, Wrekenton after 1911. His father, Joseph Harrison Elliott, was given as his next of kin.

He is remembered as Elliot in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
