Taft, T., Lieut., 1917
In Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant and Quartermaster Thomas Taft, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 23/12/1917.

The information given below in respect of some of the brethren is the best possible conclusion from Lodge records, Grand Lodge records, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and data in respect of merchant ship losses during the First World War.

3110 Vane Lodge, Year of Warrant 1905, Masonic Hall, Bishop Auckland

Lieutenant Thomas TAFT, Durham Light Infantry 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment attached 4th Battalion.

The son of Thomas and Margaret Taft of Hulme, Manchester he was Initiated on the 10th December 1915 and there is no record of any further Advancement. He died of wounds on the 23rd December 1917 aged 59, the husband of Jane Taft of 17 Zante Street, Kirkdale Road, Liverpool. He is buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium, Grave Reference XIII.H.4.
