Pinkney, C.W., Pte., 1917
In Zuydcoote Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 39126 Private Charles William Pinkney, serving with the Highland Light Infantry who died 14/09/1917.

H.J.M. has provided the following:

Charles was Joseph and Annie Pinkney’s only son. They were living in Bolam when he was born and later moved to 30 Beaumont Street in Bishop Auckland.

In 1911 Charles was working for the North East Railway Company as a labourer and his mother had been widowed.

His service records are not available but many of the graves within the Zuydcoote Cemetery remember men who died in two clearing hospitals which were based in Zuydcoote.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.24 and in the North Eastern Railway Roll of Honour
