The CWGC records for his burial at Burnhope show his widow had remarried and was now Mrs Shotton of 12 Fell Row Burnhope and his father was Mr W. Shield 38 Sallyport Crescent Newcastle upon Tyne.
Thomas Shields married Violet Camsell in 1914, they had three children Thomas b/d1914, Robert 1917 and Alice 1920.
Thomas died after his discharge and has not been identified on any local memorial.
