“At a matinee at the Empire Picture Hall, Whitley Bay, yesterday, Mrs. Eltringham, late matron of the V.A.D. Hospital, was presented with a testimonial comprising a silver salver and a cheque for £100, together with the takings of the afternoon. Alderman Mason, M.P., in calling upon Lady Douglass to make the presentation, said that during the three and a half years that Mrs. Eltringham was in charge of the hospital, 1,603 patients passed through the institution and only 22 died, equal to 1½ per cent.”
